- Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary - It is one India’s largest wildlife sanctuaries. It encloses a vast area of 777 square kilometers, which includes 360 square kilometers of evergreen forests. Government of India declared Periyar wildlife sanctuary a tiger reserve back in 1978. Besides having a high density of tigers this renowned tiger reserve is a home of many other endangered species of animals. Its greatest attraction is watching elephants playing in lake waters. Mangla devi temple is situated within the forests of Periyar wildlife sanctuary and is opened once in a year on the occasion of chithrapournami festival.
- Periyar lake – It is an artificial lake formed by Mullaperiyar dam. Periyar lake adds to the beauty of the Periyar wildlife sanctuary.

Thekkady is 257 kilometers away from Trivandrum and 114 kilometers from Madurai city and Madurai airport.
