Forest Canopy is located in Thekkady, near one of the most renowned wildlife sanctuaries and tiger reserves in India, the Periyar Tiger Reserve.     What To Know

    • Explore on a bamboo raft! Bamboo rafting is arranged as part of the nature walk of the eco-tourism project of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. You shall go trekking to the thicker parts of the forest and then be lead through the catchment areas on a bamboo raft.
    • For the pious, Thekkady has the Kurisumala which when translated means ‘the mountain with a cross’ or a holy mountain. Merely a two-kilometre drive from Kumily, pilgrims climbs the mountain on Good Friday in remembrance of the crucifixion of Christ. Located en way to Kurisumala, Kollampattada offers a scenic panorama view of the Periyar valley. One may take a jeep ride until Kollampattada and trek the remaining way up to Kurisumala.
    • One cannot talk about Thekkady without a mention of the scent of spice carried by the very breeze there. One may get a just of it walking the streets or the plantations. Cloves, nutmeg, pepper, cinnamon, and cardamom are a few of the spices cultivated in the region due to its cool climate and altitude.
    • Go boating on the Periyar! It is organised by the Kerala Tourism Department and the Forest Department. Calm and serene, float in bliss as you boat on the endless river. The best time for a boating expedition would be early in the morning when mist lies low over the water. Coupled with branches protruding from the waters, it truly is an experience.
    • One can also go for elephant rides or jeep safaris or nature walks within the reserve. Ride on them friendly animals and enjoy the serenity of the space. Overcome your fear which would soon be replaced by wonder or access the deeper regions of the forest inaccessible by foot on a jeep and feel like a panther moving amidst thick undergrowth, waterfalls and spice plantations. Or simply take a walk. A visit to canopy shall be incomplete without a walk through the grounds. Walk amongst the woods, revel in its silences and noises, its smooth and rough textures.
    • One may also go visiting live performances of traditional art forms like Kathakali, which is a performance that combines story-telling, dance, poetry and colourful costumes. Kalaripayattu, a martial art that originated in Kerala is yet another attraction.
